What Students Do During Their Studies
Not “sometime after graduation,” but right in the middle of the program: an internship at CERN, accredited media coverage at Fashion Week, a project recognized by a Swiss city, and playing on the national team while still in school.

Frequently Asked Questions
Official documents from the institute are attached to each response. You can open and review them right now without submitting an application.
What kind of diploma will I receive, and what does it look like?
Upon completion of the program, students receive a diploma certifying the degree awarded and a diploma supplement listing the courses and their ECTS credit values. Both documents are issued in English. The diploma is awarded after students have passed all course requirements and successfully defended their final thesis. Professional certificates are issued for continuing education programs. Samples of both documents are provided below; the numbers shown are for illustrative purposes only.
Is the SIIL diploma recognized outside of Switzerland?
The institute received international institutional accreditation from IAAR in March 2025. The agency itself is listed in the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR) and is a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA); therefore, the programs and diplomas comply with European standards: course loads are measured in ECTS credits, and the diploma supplement is in English. However, formal recognition is always determined by the specific country or employer, and their requirements vary. If you let us know where you plan to use your degree, an advisor will let you know in advance what documents the local authorities typically request.
Is SIIL an institute or an online course?
The institute is registered in Switzerland in the Vaud Canton Business Register and holds a Swiss Business Identification Number (UID). In June 2021, it was added to the list of private educational institutions in the Canton of Vaud as meeting the canton’s requirements for curricula and faculty qualifications. The program is structured by semesters and curricula, and includes assessments, a final qualifying project, and a diploma. As of 2022, the institute is certified under the Swiss national quality standard eduQua.
Classes are taught in Russian. Doesn't that diminish the value of the degree?
The language of instruction and the language of the academic transcript are two different things. You can study in your native language, but your diploma and its supplement are issued in English, with course loads expressed in ECTS credits, as is customary in the European Higher Education Area. The curriculum content is the same for all languages of instruction and is published in the program catalog. All faculty members are required to be fluent in the language in which the program is taught.
Who monitors the quality of education, and how?
The institute has a quality assurance policy in place: programs are regularly reviewed, and students and faculty complete surveys; the results are analyzed and published. Externally, quality was assessed by an external expert commission during institutional accreditation, and the management system has been validated by eduQua certification, which must be renewed periodically.
What documents are required for admission, and are there any exams?
The institute follows an open education policy: there are no entrance exams. To enroll in a bachelor’s program, you need a high school diploma or its equivalent; for a master’s program, a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. The specific school documents accepted from your country are listed in the appendix to the admission rules: the appendix includes a list of countries ranging from Azerbaijan and Belarus to Kazakhstan and Russia.
Is it possible to transfer from another university, and will the courses I've already taken be accepted?
Yes. This is called recognition of equivalence: when you apply, you submit an application with a list of the courses you’ve already taken and the credits you’ve earned. If the content and scope are comparable to the SIIL curriculum, you won’t need to retake the course, and your program duration will be shortened. If you earned fewer credits for a course than the curriculum requires, equivalence will not be recognized. The decision is made before you begin your studies so that you know your program duration and cost in advance.
How much does the course cost, and are there any hidden fees?
The cost is listed per semester and does not depend on how many courses you are taking that semester: Bachelor’s programs start at 1,480 euros, Master’s programs at 1,960 euros, DBA programs at 3,750 euros, and preparation for the Swiss Federal Exams at 2,000 euros. The fee includes access to the platform, program course materials, webinars, support from an academic advisor, and two retakes per course. A third and any subsequent retakes, as well as administrative fees for specific services, are billed separately. Contractual refund policy: You may withdraw from the program within 14 days of gaining access to the semester; the institute will retain 10% of the semester’s cost; prepayments for future semesters are fully refundable. All amounts and conditions are specified in the payment terms and the contract—it is advisable to read them before signing.
How long will it take, and what will happen if I'm out for a month?
The course is structured around the flipped classroom model: you work through the material and assignments independently at your own pace, while webinars are held on a scheduled basis and remain available as recordings. You can start at any time of year, without being tied to the fall or spring enrollment periods. One semester is worth 30 ECTS credits and lasts up to 18 calendar months, so even a busy month won’t derail your progress. If you face more serious circumstances, you can request a leave of absence. Students are dismissed not for absences, but for exceeding the maximum duration of study, non-payment of tuition, or an unsatisfactory final grade in a course.
How do the evaluation and defense of the final project take place?
Each course includes assessment activities, and at the end of the program, students complete a final qualifying project. The topic is agreed upon with the instructor of the relevant course, who also supervises the project; the process is initiated through your personal account. Requirements regarding structure, formatting, references, and originality are outlined in a separate guide. If your grade in a course is insufficient, two retakes are already included in the tuition fee.
What should I do if I disagree with a teacher's grade or opinion?
A student’s right to express and defend their own well-reasoned position is enshrined in the declaration on academic freedom—there is no requirement to agree with the instructor in order to receive a grade. If the dispute cannot be resolved through discussion, a formal procedure is in place: a complaint must be submitted in writing, a written response must be provided within 6 weeks, and decisions may be appealed all the way to the institute’s appeals committee.
Are there any age restrictions?
There is no upper age limit: the programs are attended by recent high school graduates as well as people who are returning to school after a long hiatus or changing careers at age 50. The self-paced, distance learning format is specifically designed for adults with jobs and families. Students are accepted into professional development programs starting at age 15; for bachelor’s degree programs, a high school diploma is required.
