The Truth About the Format

Who Should Take This Course

This is suitable if

  • Have you graduated from high school or college and want to pursue a college degree without having to move?
  • Are you currently working and need a degree with ECTS credits for your career or to change jobs?
  • You're changing careers and are ready to commit to 3–4 years of systematic study
  • You are ready to study in English: you must have a level of at least B1 (according to the admission requirements) or pass an entrance language test

This won't work if

  • Are you looking for a short course that lasts a couple of months? There are introductory courses available for that.
  • Not willing to set aside time on a regular basis for course materials, assignments, and assessments
  • We need an in-person format with classrooms and labs on campus
  • I need a state-issued diploma from a specific country

Three Independent Bases of Trust

SIIL underwent an independent institutional evaluation

External experts evaluated the educational processes, the management system, internal quality assurance, and other aspects of the institute’s operations. The result was institutional accreditation by the IAAR (certificate AA 0298).

Why IAAR Status Matters

IAAR is a member of ENQA and is registered with EQAR. The status of the accreditation agency itself can be verified in European sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an actual college, not just online courses?

The institute is registered in Switzerland in the Vaud Canton business registry and holds a Swiss Business Identification Number (UID). In June 2021, it was added to the list of private educational institutions in the Canton of Vaud. The curriculum is organized by semesters and study plans, and includes assessments, a final project, and a diploma. Since 2022, the institute has been certified under the Swiss eduQua quality standard. Registration · Letter from the Canton of Vaud · eduQua Certificate

What's included in the price, and are there any hidden fees?

The cost is listed per semester and does not depend on the number of courses in that semester. It includes access to the platform, course materials, webinars, support from an academic advisor, and two retakes per course. A third and any subsequent retakes and administrative fees for specific services are billed separately. Important to know in advance: once the semester begins and access to the materials is granted, the payment is non-refundable and cannot be carried over. Payment Terms · Sample Contract

What does IAAR institutional accreditation confirm?

Institutional accreditation means that external experts have evaluated the institution as a whole—including its educational processes, management system, and internal quality assurance—and have determined that they meet the agency’s standards. This is an evaluation of the institution, not of a specific program.

Can I check my SIIL status on my own?

Yes. The SIIL entry is published in the IAAR’s public registry—verification does not require registration or contacting the institute. View the SIIL entry in the registry. The status of the IAAR agency itself can be verified in the European databases ENQA and EQAR.

What Are the Benefits of the Bologna Process and ECTS?

They make the program “readable” for external evaluation: a university or employer can see the program’s level, the list of courses, the course load, and the total volume of study in understandable European units, rather than just the name of the degree.

Does accreditation mean automatic recognition of a degree?

Accreditation and ECTS are assessment tools: they allow a university or employer to quickly understand a program’s level, content, and scope. Each organization makes its own decision regarding recognition based on its own rules and the laws of its country, so recognition is not automatic. SIIL’s open documents significantly simplify this procedure.

What does the letter from the canton of Vo confirm?

A letter confirming inclusion on the list of private educational institutions in the Canton of Vaud (in accordance with immigration law) was issued by the Canton’s Population Service on June 3, 2021. It allows the immigration office to process applications from international students for temporary residence for the purpose of study. Decisions on each application are made on a case-by-case basis.
