Thailand Fashion Week AW26/27 in Bangkok: A SIIL Student on the Accredited Media Team

The Case in Brief
The Swiss International Institute Lausanne received official media accreditation for Thailand Fashion Week AW26/27—and granted that access to a student. Thanks to the institute, she ended up not in the audience, but in the backstage area of the fashion week: backstage, in the press pool, and right next to the runway.
Over the course of two days of shows, she worked as part of the media team: recording interviews, filming backstage, and meeting the people who keep the industry running— designers, models, photographers, videographers, stylists, organizers, and members of the press. The event has already taken place; below are the interview and the clips filmed on site.
Interview: The Key Video in This Case
The student explains how the accreditation process worked, what really goes on behind the scenes at a fashion week, and what this kind of experience offers you at the very start of your career.

What Happened on Site
Thailand Fashion Week is a two-day international trade runway event featuring shows in the categories of Couture, Femme, Homme, and Avant-Garde, as well as accessories, footwear, and jewelry. It brings together designers and buyers from Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other countries—along with members of the press, stylists, and production crews.
Who the student worked with and interacted with:
- Designers and brands: discussions about collection concepts, how an idea becomes a runway look, and how a young label makes it onto the official fashion week calendar.
- Models: castings, rehearsals, working with stylists and makeup artists—the entire journey leading up to that first step on the runway.
- Photographers and videographers: how a show is filmed—lighting, shooting positions, and deadlines for delivering footage to the press and brands.
- Organizers and press office: how accreditation works, the event schedule, the press area, and the coordination of dozens of teams at once.
- Media and buyers: how an event of this scale leads to media coverage, contracts, and brand growth in new markets.

What the student learned
- Real-world industry experience: not just a classroom exercise, but working at an international event with real deadlines and a professional crew.
- Portfolio: video interviews and footage from a fashion week—material you can show an employer or a client.
- Networking: direct contacts with designers, production teams, and media professionals in several countries.
- Communication practice: interviews and day-to-day work in English in an international setting.
Why SIIL students have opportunities like this
SIIL structures its programs around hands-on experience: the institute establishes partnerships and secures access to industry events, then makes them available to students. The Thailand Fashion Week accreditation is one such example—the institute used its media status not to produce a report, but to give a student access to the backstage area of an international fashion week.
For programs in fashion and brand management, event management, marketing, and media, this kind of experience replaces dozens of hours of theory: students get an inside look at the industry and immediately understand how it works.
