An Information Security Manager with a Federal Diploma (Diplôme fédéral) oversees all aspects of an organization’s information security. He or she reduces information security risks to the level specified by management, identifies gaps in the security strategy and develops measures to address them, advises the crisis committee on ICT security issues, and fosters a culture of security throughout the organization by engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.

The program covers 15 official modules from ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz (M249, M665–M678). Unlike some other exams, each of the three parts covers all areas of competence and is not tied to specific modules. Passing requirement: final weighted average ≥ 4.0; Parts 1 and 3 — no lower than 4.0; Part 2 — no lower than 3.0.
Preparatory course — 8,000 € (4 semesters at 2,000 € each). Federal exam — 3,400 CHF (all additional costs included; billed separately by ICT-Formation professionnelle Suisse). Official duration — 24 months (274 hours of instruction).

Get adviceUpon successful completion of the federal exam, graduates are awarded the qualification “Professional Master’s Degree, specializing in Information Security Management”—the highest federal degree in higher education (Diplôme fédéral). The exam is administered by the industry organization ICT-Formation professionnelle Suisse, and the qualification is awarded by the Swiss Confederation. SIIL offers a preparatory course for this exam.

External experts evaluated the educational processes, the management system, internal quality assurance, and other aspects of the institute’s operations. The result was institutional accreditation by the IAAR (certificate AA 0298).

The official duration of the program is 24 months (274 hours of instruction). The federal exam consists of three parts and is taken in person in Switzerland.
Schedule: 92 hours of recorded theory modules and 182 hours of live online classes, alternating every two weeks.

Admission is possible if one of the following four conditions is met (plus a current certificate confirming no criminal record incompatible with the profession): (a) a tertiary degree in IT + 3 years of experience in ICT security; (b) a tertiary degree in another field + 4 years; (c) upper secondary education in IT + 6 years; (d) upper secondary education in another field + 8 years of experience. Experience is calculated as of the first day of the exam.

Proof of education and professional experience in the field of ICT security, as well as a certificate of no criminal record. International applicants are responsible for obtaining their own visas and covering their travel expenses; SIIL can assist with the visa application.
Signing of the contract, access to the SIIL platform, and the start of the preparatory course. Classes begin on February 1, 2027.
